Technical Statement
Product Description
The Knauf Insulation range of glasswool insulation products don’t look or feel like any insulation you’ve ever experienced, that’s because the natural brown colour represents a level of sustainability and ease of handling never before achieved in New Zealand. The colour and super-soft feel of this insulation come from a revolutionary sustainable binder which does not contain the petro-based chemicals, added formaldehyde or artificial colours commonly used in other glasswool insulation. Knauf Insulation glasswool has been certified DECLARE ‘Red List Free’ indicating that the products are free from chemicals and elements known to pose
serious risks to human health.
Scope of use
Knauf Insulation's ceiling insulation range is intended for use in open ceiling cavities where the products remain dry and uncompressed. Products must be installed with NZS4246 and the manufacturers installation instructions.

Product Criteria
Design requirements
Knauf Insulation's ceiling insulation range is intended for use in open ceiling cavities where the products remain dry and uncompressed. Products must be installed with NZS4246 and the manufacturers installation instructions.
Manufactured for consistent quality and ease of installation, the batts are low dust, clean cutting and highly resilient, allowing them to recover quickly to full thickness. Knauf Insulation Ceiling segments also incorporate DriTherm® Technology, which provides moisture repellence to support long-term durability and in-service performance.
Knauf Insulation does not have proprietary fixings or accessories.
Installation requirements
Installation of Knauf Insulation Ceiling segments must be completed by an installer with an understanding of insulation installation, in accordance with the instructions given within the Technical Literature, Installation Instructions and BRANZ Appraisal. Installation of Knauf Insulation must be in accordance with the Knauf Insulation’s Technical Literature, Installation Instructions and BRANZ Appraisal. NZS 4246 should be used as a guide for installing insulation in residential buildings in New Zealand. The product must be installed only when the building is enclosed and when the construction materials have achieved the required maximum moisture content or less, to ensure the insulation does not become wet.
Please refer to Knauf Insulation's ceiling installation instructions at https://knauf.com/api/download-center/v1/assets/57dd4450-d039-4995-9569-37f4ce67eee0?download=true&country=nz&locale=en-NZ
Maintenance requirements
The building must be maintained weatherproof at all times. If, during normal routine maintenance it is discovered that moisture has entered the building envelope, or that dampness has occurred because of leaking plumbing or some other source, then that source must be repaired immediately. Wet or damp insulation must be removed and then replaced with new insulation of an equivalent thermal rating. Cavities must be clean, dry and free of all contaminants and mould before fitting new insulation. NZS 4246 Paragraph 3.3 gives guidance on thermal insulation maintenance due to water damage.
