Technical Statement
Product Description
Calcecruda is a ready-to-use microporous mineral decorative coating for interior application, based on lime hydrate, purified clay, selected marbles, natural sands, and cellulose fibres.
The binder is aerial lime with organic modification of less than 5%. Bulk density is 1.70 ±0.05 g/ml.
Calcecruda achieves a European Reaction to Fire classification of A1 per ISO 1716:2010, with a gross heat of combustion below 0.2 MJ/kg. Water vapour transmission is Class V1 High (Sd < 0.14 m at 0.7 mm thickness) per ISO 7783-2, and liquid water permeability is Class W2 Medium per EN 1062-3.
VOC content is 0.011% per ISO 11890-2:2013. The product has been independently tested to ISO 16000-23 and demonstrated a reduction in indoor formaldehyde concentration of greater than 80%.
Applied in one or two coats using a stainless steel spatula. Coverage yield is 1.5–2.5 kg/m² across two coats, subject to substrate absorption.
Suitable substrates include new and existing hydraulic binder-based plasters, dry compact organic or mineral coatings, absorbent mineral conglomerates, and gypsum and plasterboard surfaces.
Scope of use
Novacolor Calcecruda is a ready-to-use, trowel-applied mineral decorative coating for use on interior walls and ceilings in residential and commercial buildings. It is supplied by The Finish NZ and applied by trained and certified applicators.
This statement covers the use of Novacolor Calcecruda as a decorative interior surface finish on correctly prepared substrates including plasterboard (GIB), gypsum and plasterboard surfaces, new and existing hydraulic binder-based plasters, dry compact organic or mineral coatings, and absorbent mineral conglomerates. Use is limited to interior applications. This product is not intended for use in wet areas, exterior applications without appropriate topcoat protection, or structural purposes. Do not apply to fresh or essentially alkaline substrates; a maturation period of at least four weeks is required. Do not apply to substrates subject to rising damp.

Notes
Novacolor Calcecruda is a mineral decorative coating based on aerial lime, purified clay, and natural aggregates. Its performance as a durable interior finish is supported by independently verified technical data. Water vapour transmission is Class V1 High per ISO 7783-2, confirming breathability appropriate for interior environments. Liquid water permeability is Class W2 Medium per EN 1062-3. The product achieves a European Reaction to Fire classification of A1 per ISO 1716:2010, confirming non-combustibility. VOC content is 0.011% per ISO 11890-2:2013. Independently tested to ISO 16000-23, Calcecruda demonstrates a reduction in indoor formaldehyde concentration of greater than 80%. Performance is conditional on correct substrate preparation, application by trained installers, and use of compatible Novacolor primer and surface protection systems in accordance with the published technical data sheet.
Evidence
The product meets the requirements set out in the following documents, or relevant parts of cited standards within the documents:
Novacolor Calce cruda demonstrates compliance with the New Zealand Building Code through manufacturer's technical documentation and independent third-party testing. Durability performance is supported by the product's mineral composition - aerial lime, purified clay, and natural aggregates - and by application in strict accordance with Novacolor's published technical data sheet, including substrate preparation, approved application methods, and compatible primer and surface protection systems. Fire performance is confirmed by independent testing to ISO 1716:2010, achieving a European Reaction to Fire classification of A2 - confirming the product is non-combustible. VOC content is independently verified at 0.011% per ISO 11890-2:2013, well below regulatory thresholds. Indoor air quality performance is supported by independent testing to ISO 16000-23 at Eurofins Denmark, demonstrating a reduction in formaldehyde concentration of greater than 80%. Application must be carried out by trained and certified installers to ensure performance outcomes align with documented parameters.

Product Criteria
Design requirements
Novacolor Marmorino KS is suited to interior feature walls, full-room wall applications, and ceilings in residential and commercial settings.
Best specified where depth, tonal variation, and a handcrafted surface quality are the design intent. Not recommended for wet areas or surfaces subject to continuous moisture exposure.
Colour selection should account for natural tonal shift across large wall areas - samples are recommended prior to final specification.
Substrate preparation to Level 4 finish is required; imperfections will telegraph through the applied system. Custom colour matching available on request. Contact The Finish for sample specification support.
Installation requirements
Novacolor Marmorino KS must be applied by a trained and certified applicator in accordance with Novacolor's technical data sheet.
Substrate must be clean, dry, structurally sound, and prepared to a Level 4 finish with no visible fixings.
Suitable substrates include plasterboard (GIB), existing painted surfaces, concrete, fibre-cement board.
Ambient temperature during application should be between 5°C and 35°C.
Protect from direct sunlight, rain, and moisture during application and cure.
Maintenance requirements
To maintain compliance with NZBC Clause B2 Durability, Novacolor Calce Cruda must be inspected periodically and kept clean using pH-neutral cleaning products. Avoid abrasive tools or harsh chemical cleaners, which may degrade the polished lime surface. When installed and maintained in accordance with Novacolor's published technical data sheet, the product is warranted for 10 years from the date of installation completion.
Warrantees
10-year product warranty supplied when installed by a certified applicator.
Environmental
Novacolor Calcecruda is formulated with natural and minimally processed raw materials - aerial lime, purified clay, selected marbles, natural sands, and cellulose fibres - with organic modification of less than 5%. VOC content is exceptionally low at 0.011% per ISO 11890-2:2013, well below regulatory thresholds. The product contains no synthetic resins and is not classified for environmental hazards. A distinctive environmental benefit is Calcecruda's independently verified capacity to actively reduce indoor formaldehyde concentration by more than 80%, tested to ISO 16000-23 at Eurofins Denmark, directly supporting healthier interior environments.
